Steel
The Soul of a Knife
The choice of steel is one of the most important decisions when making a knife. We use a number of steels to fit the intended use and cutting geometry of each blade. Heat treatment has to be adequate for the steel and the resulting hardness is measured afterwards on site.
We use the following steels:
N690: Good allround steel, good edge retention, easy honing
RWL 34: Powder metallurgic steel, very good edge retention
1.251: Non-stainless tool steel, fine structure, high sharpness, easy honing
CPM420V: Powder metallurgic steel, excellent edge retention possible, difficult honing
Damascus: Stainless, very good edge retention possible, beautiful and unique patterns
For greater individuality, blades can be etched, sanded, polished, or embellished with engravings. Gold inlays or gemstones are other options to make your knife truly stand out.
