The Falconry Knives
Taking Knifemaking to Soaring Heights
This exciting project was commissioned by Gaston J. Glock Style Ltd., who develop products for sport shooters and hunters.
I crafted fifteen hunting knives — five variations each on three base designs — modelled upon historical falconer knives. Shapes and ornaments were inspired by the Arab origin of the falcon hunt. Only the finest materials were used in these pieces, which are lavishly finished with intricate hand engravings and gemstones.
Falconer knives are hunting knives specially adapted for hunting with birds of prey. It is the falconer's task to kill the live prey that his falcon brings back in its claws. For this, he needs a knife with a special design: only the front part of the blade has a sharp edge, while the rest of the blade is blunted all the way to the knife handle, so that the bird doesn't hurt itself by accidentally stepping on the blade.
